First time biking...beaming with pride

It's been 240 years of oppression in the U.S. and just one week of lament for me since Hillary Clinton lost the election for President. This week, I've been more scared than ever for both of my children; but mostly for my daughter. How will they be treated? Will they not gain the rights they deserve or worst....will she lose some of the rights that even I've gained thanks to women before me?

But today, I had hope....

Serene went bike riding for the first time. The first time around the large loop in the park, I walked alongside her. The second time she went around, I rushed behind. By the third trip, she raced ahead so fast I struggled to jog along just to keep up. And, on the forth loop, she literally rode off into the sunset leaving me far behind. As she raced, about half-way around loop, a big man coming her way on the sidewalk refused to move out of the way for her. She veered off course and fell over on the grass. As I raced toward her anticipating the worst. She got up, pick up her bike, turned around and screamed at the man "Who do you think you are? Get out of my way! Do you think that you can do that just because I'm a girl!?" She got back on her bike and raced away.

Just then, I knew everything was going to be okay. As Serene tested her wheels today, part of my heart beamed with pride at her strength and confidence. But, the other part of my heart broke apart into a thousand little pieces knowing that this little girl would be leaving me too soon to conquer the world on her own. But when she stood up and spoke her mind, I couldn't have been more proud!

Biking Yosemite Valley

There are over 12 miles of paved bike trails on the Yosemite Valley floor and almost no hills. We rented two bicycles with trailers behind to haul Alex and Serene at the Curry Village bike stand. We were able to park the car and travel far & wide across the valley for hours -- something we never could have done on foot. The trails are easy to navigate, with detailed postings along the way to help guide you. The kids loved the breeze blowing in their hair and being able to stop to jump in the river, browse the snack shop and take in the breathtaking views. With little kids, we never would have been able to enjoy Yosemite so much without the tip to rent the bikes!
